Scholarships & Financial Aid

Seniors, make sure you have signed up for Senior Remind. We will notify you of upcoming opportunities. If you have not yet signed up for Remind, please text 81010 with the message "@AGHS21".

PLEASE NOTE: The following scholarships are only a small percentage of what is available. Research scholarships that are specific to you.
For example: What scholarships are specific to the university or college you want to attend? What do you plan to major in? What is your gender? What is your race? Are you the first to attend college in your family? Do you have a disability?

Unless, otherwise noted, please check scholarship websites for eligibility requirements.

SECU Foundation Scholarship
Amount: $10,000
Eligibility:
  • Either you or your parent/guardian must be a member of the State Employees Credit Union
  • Must be a US citizen, NC resident, or eligible for in-state tuition
  • Must plan on attending a UNC system institution
  • Must file FAFSA
Application opens in December
Deadline: 5PM on February 26th -- Email your applications to Ms. Miya


Horatio Alger Scholarships
Amount: Varies
Eligibility:
  • Pursuing a bachelor's degree after graduation
  • Demonstrate financial need ($55,000 or lower adjusted gross family income required)
  • Be involved in co-curricular and community service activities
  • Display integrity and perserverance in overcoming adversity
  • Minimum GPA of 2.0
  • Be a U.S. citizen
Deadline: Varies

Speak's Law Firm Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility:
  • Have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.​​
Deadline: 04/30/2021

Elevate Mental Health Awareness Scholarship
Amount: $500
Eligibility:
  • Must be a US citizen or permanent legal resident
  • Must have personally experienced challenges with mental health or have had people close to them who have experienced challenges
Deadline: 06/01/2021

Ponton Law Scholarship
Amount: $1,000
Eligibility:
  • Must plan to attend college next year.
  • Have a minimum of a 3.0 GPA.​
Deadline: 07/31/2021

Florence Kidder Memorial Scholarship
Amount: $400-$1,000
Eligibility:
  • High School Senior
  • Attending a post-secondary institution in NC
Deadline: 2/7/2021

You need recommendation letters for most scholarships. Please go to "Request Recommendation" tab above to access our Brag Sheet.  Give this to your recommender no later than 2 weeks prior to the due date.

P.S. Don't forget to give teachers and community leaders a thank you note after they write your letter.

​The application is also available at www.fafsa.gov, or you may call 800-4-FedAid (800-433-3243). As the name says, there is no charge to complete this application, and by doing so, you will be considered for all types of federal financial aid. It is important to complete this form as soon as possible beginning in October and definitely before the deadlines published by the college you wish to attend.
